The 1948
NCAA basketball tournament involved
8 schools playing in single-elimination play
to determine the national champion of men's NCAADivision
Icollege
basketball.
It began on March 19, 1948, and ended with the championship game on March 23 in New
York City.
A total of 10 games were played, including a third place game in each region and
a national third place game.

Notes
Oregon State led the nation in field goal percentage (36.7), while
Texas was # 1 in free throw shooting (73 percent).
St. Bonaventure’s Sam Urzetta became the first 90+ free throw shooter
with a 92.2 percentage.
NIT 1st Place: St. Louis 65, NYU 52. "Easy Ed” Macauley led St. Louis
(24-3), outscoring NYU’s Dolph Schayes 24-8 in a 65-52 victory. NYU ended
22-4. The leading scorer in the NIT was Ed Mikan of DePaul, brother of
the famed George Mikan.
