It began on March 21, 1941, and ended with the championship game on March 29 in Kansas City, Missouri. A total of nine games were played, including a third place game in both regions.

Championship Game[edit]

For the second straight year, the Municipal Auditorium hosted both the West Regional games and the Championship game, making it the first arena to repeat as host. The East Regional was held on a different college campus for the third straight year, this time at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. This marked the first of two times the Wisconsin Field House hosted games, and first of three times the University has, hosting at its replacement, the Kohl Center, in 2002.

Notes
- Wisconsin finished with a 20-3 record with only one player averaging in double figures.
- George Glamack's 45 points in a single game was the second-highest in collegiate history, topped only by the earlier 50 of Hank Luisetti of Stanford. Glamack scored 31 in a 60-59 playoff loss to Dartmouth to become the first-ever player to exceed 30 points in the tournament.
- Long Island University finished 25-2 and won the NIT again, this time defeating Ohio University, 56-42, for the title.
