DOAK WALKER NATIONAL RUNNING BACK AWARD

First presented in 1990 to honor the nation’s best running back among Division I-A juniors or seniors who combine outstanding achievements on the field, in the classroom and in the community, by the GTE/Southern Methodist Athletic Forum in Dallas, Texas, and sponsored by Dr. Pepper, a $10,000 scholarship is donated to the recipient’s university in his name. It is voted on by a 16-member panel of media and former college football standouts. The award is named after Doak Walker, Southern Methodist’s three-time consensus all-American halfback and 1948 Heisman Trophy winner.
